Battery Cell Filtration
Battery cell filtration, i.e. filtration of anode and cathode slurry mixtures, is a key process step that determines the properties of the coating applied to copper or aluminum foil.
This is a demanding task because binders and pigments have very different behavior during filtration. Removing gel particles from binders requires different filtration properties than removing agglomerates from the slurry mixture.
For effective agglomerate removal, a filter with excellent particle classification properties is needed. If the filter lacks such properties, too many functional components are removed. This shortens filter life and increases the need for frequent filter replacements.
The process design (pumps, piping, filter housings, process monitoring) also has a major impact on filtration behavior. Often these systems are not optimally designed for thixotropic liquids, which can lead to various problems. This applies to both anode and cathode slurry mixtures.
Dry-Coated Batteries
Dry-coated batteries: primer filtration is also a task we can successfully handle. The defect problems that may arise are similar to those in wet-coated systems.
We have answers to your questions to reduce defect occurrence:
- Why do we still find impurities or inclusions in the coating after filtration?
- How to reduce or avoid air bubbles and spots in the coating?
- How to reduce the occurrence of lines and scratches in the coating?
- How to reduce filter replacement frequency?
